PROGRESS & POVERTY

The vast majority of people in the world are,by any standard, 'POOR'!

  1. While still a student at UNH, I became aware of HENRY GEORGE via a correspondence course that I took at the time from THE HENRY GEORGE INSTITUTE. His works were, and still are, largely ignored by most "schools' of economic thought for various reasons I that I will discuss later. In my estimation, he is the greatest economist that America has produced and his classic work, PROGRESS & POVERTY,from which I title this blog, deserves to be better read.....for the fundamental question that he presented is this? Why in the face of continual progress along scientific and material lines has poverty also increased? I hope to discuss this more fully as time goes by.

  2. I also wish to mention my 'mentor' in the Henry George theories and works on economics, the late William Hall, who held a lecture series/workshop on Henry George at the Fiske Free Library in the late 60's or so....which I attended and since I was one of the few who had some acquaintence with Henry George's works, I became his friend...Bill Hall was also a staunch Evolutionist, a Darwinian, and introduced me to the works of Herbert Spencer and the ideas of work and freedom and individualism, etc. He had other interesting ideas and I shall discuss some of them when I have more time to do so....
